A little over ten acres in the middle of the creek, with sites along the water, a lodge that feels like a friend’s living room, and wild bunnies who will come say hello.
In late 2021, we took on what one guest lovingly called “the most beautiful dump”: the overgrown remains of York County’s very first campground.
Every season since, we’ve cleared brush, rebuilt the utilities, and filled the rec room with books, games and craft supplies. We’re a Christian family, and hospitality is how we live that out. We want every guest to feel like they’ve stepped into our home.

The bunnies
Islanders since 1966
When Floyd Shoemaker built the campground in 1966, he loved bunnies so much he brought some to the island for his guests. Their descendants have been hopping between campsites ever since, and they’ll eat right out of your hand.
Bring greens
Romaine, carrot tops, fresh herbs, bell peppers and zucchini are favorites. Fruit only as a treat.
Pet, don’t pick up
Gentle pets are welcome. Please don’t lift or carry the bunnies; it keeps them safe.
Skip the snacks
No human treats, crackers, cereal, corn or iceberg lettuce.

The creek
Conewago Creek wraps the whole island, with walking paths along the bank, two dams, a waterfall by site 19 and plenty of good fishing spots.
The rec room
Fifteen hundred square feet of living room: couches, shelves of books and games, a ten-foot farm table stocked with craft supplies, a pool table, foosball and arcade games.
The camp store
Ice cream, coffee and espresso, weekend-morning pastries, local farm-stand goods and island swag.
The community circle
Two fire pits under string lights, an outdoor movie screen, ping pong and cornhole.
The playground
A pirate-ship playground, gaga pit, basketball court, swings and tetherball.
From spring through fall, the Island Crew plans something for every age, from fairy crowns and bunny portraits to a fishing competition and line dancing in cowboy boots.
I had site 19 and it was right on the water by the waterfall. Very scenic and it was easy to get to sleep with the sounds… I woke up each morning to bunnies under my camp chair.

What are check-in and check-out times at Campground Island?
Check-in is at 2 pm and check-out is at 12 pm. Check-in and check-out are done online through the email you receive after booking, so you can drive straight to your site.
How much does a campsite cost?
RV sites are $65–$70 a night on weekdays and $75–$80 on weekends, depending on full hookup or water and electric. Tent and pop-up sites are $45 a night, the glamping tent is $120 a night and the camper rental is $180 a night. Weekly and monthly RV rates are available.
Are dogs allowed?
Yes. Up to three pets are welcome per site. Pets must be leashed whenever they are outside, including on your own site, and may not be left unattended. There is a dog-wash hydrant with shampoo by the bathhouse.
Can we feed and pet the bunnies?
Yes, gently. The bunnies will eat greens like romaine, carrot tops, herbs, bell peppers and zucchini right out of your hand, with fruit only as an occasional treat. Please do not pick them up or carry them, and do not feed them human snacks, crackers, cereal, corn or iceberg lettuce.
Can you swim or fish in the creek?
Fishing is welcome all around the island, following Pennsylvania licensing rules. Swimming is not permitted, children must be directly supervised at the creek, and everyone should stay away from the waterfall.
What is the cancellation policy?
Cancel two weeks or more before your stay for a refund minus a $10 fee. Within two weeks, you receive camp credit minus $10, good for one year. Cancellations 48 hours or less before arrival receive no refund or credit. A third-party weather guarantee can be added when booking.
Do you offer monthly or long-term sites?
Yes, with limited availability. Monthly RV stays are $1,200, and stays of three months or more are $750 a month plus electric. There are no seasonal sites. Fill out the monthly request form and the Thomas family will contact you when a site opens.
Is Campground Island open in the winter?
Yes. The bathhouse and showers are open year-round, and the island hosts monthly guests through the winter.
What are the quiet hours?
Quiet hours are 10 pm to 8 am. Please turn off outdoor camper lights during quiet hours.
